Dorset College Students Take to the Sea Side

This week's off campus trip took a group of Dorset College students to Howth Head on the North East Coast of County Dublin.

Howth Head (Ceann Binn Eadair in Gaelinn/Irish Language) was originally an island and is now connected to the mainland via a narrow strip of land, or tombolo, and forms the northerly bound of the great crescent of Dublin Bay roughly corresponding to Killiney Head in the South.

The appreciation of the surrounding beauty has been eternalised in many a painting, photo and prose. Perhaps most notably and suitably being in the lines of Dublin born James Joyce where the famous character of Leopold Bloom proposed to love interest Molly on the summit of the Head in the novel Ulysses.

The students trekked to the very same summit in the sun, passing through the quaint fishing village of Howth, the luxurious yachting marina and some curious seals at the pier edge.

Tranquility, beauty and history is always just around the corner in Dublin. Next week the students and group leader alike will take off to the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.
